We want Retro Collection Index to be usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology.
Our target
We aim for the website and apps to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We do not yet claim full conformance.
What we have tested
- Automated checks. We run an automated crawl of the website with the axe-core engine against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rules, covering public pages, the main signed-in screens and administrator pages. Full passes were run in July 2026; the issues found were fixed, apart from the one listed under Known issues.
- Keyboard navigation. The same crawl tabs through each page to check that focus is never lost or trapped and that a visible focus indicator is shown.
- Target size. Clickable targets are checked against the WCAG 2.2 minimum of 24 by 24 CSS pixels.
- Code checks. Automated tests check common markup requirements, such as labels and accessible names, on shared components.
We have not yet had an independent accessibility audit, and we have not yet tested systematically with screen-reader users. Automated tools find only some kinds of problem, so there will be issues we have not found.
Known issues
- A July 2026 automated scan found that white text on our teal accent colour (used on some buttons and labels) is below the WCAG AA contrast ratio for normal-size text. This is under review.
- Some game information and cover images come from outside sources and may lack full text descriptions.
